I always thought that FreeBSD installation shouldn't be a problem in general, but I wasn't really sure if a laptop would be the best choice to give it a try for the very first time. I have been proven wrong. The installation went absolutely fine, no hitches. Usual suspects, like the right screen resolution, touchpad, etc. worked straight out of the box. Broadcom ethernet card worked right. The only things that I had to do, was to load snd, and load the appropriate driver for wireless access. Luckily the Lenovo3000N200 model that I have uses Intel3945 and FreeBSD7.1 has a driver. Now wireless works perfectly and wpa-psk security is also enabled. Now I should buy a Beastie plush to sit right alongside my rockhopper penguin plush and the normal penguin plush. :D
